Hey, moms.
This is a great list of ten ways to help save gasoline. And since moms tend to be in the car a lot taxiing their kids around town from activity to activity, I thought this would be a timely and very useful post. Here are a few of the tips:
- Turn off your engine if you are going to be idling for more than 30 seconds. Millions of gallons of fuel are wasted each day from idling. Your starter and battery system can handle the increased activity.
- Change your air filter every 10,000 miles. Just like a marathon runner, your car needs to suck in air without restriction.
- Install a real-time fuel consumption meter if your car does not have one already. This way, you can see what you are doing while you are driving and make the needed adjustments to save fuel.
- Pump up those tires. Higher tire pressures result in lower rolling resistance, so your mileage will improve. Not too high, mind you, but a tad over the “recommended” from your car and tire manufacturer. Remember, they don’t want you to get good mileage.

all ten ideas. Most of them can be implemented immediately. Since I live in a very small town, most of the places where I need to go, the post office, bank, grocery store, gas station, my son's school, etc., are literally a block or two away. However, some places, like my daughter's physical therapy, our doctors' offices, and Wal-Mart are all 30 miles away, which eats up a lot of gasoline, so this list is one that I find very helpful.

Excellent. Thanks!
Now I need heat saving tips for next winter because I ALREADY got the estimate from the propane company and I thought I would keel over. Oh the joys of northern living eh?
